Haigh Hall is situated in Wigan,Manchester
The early history of the manor of Haigh cannot be traced. About 1220–1230 it belonged to
the Marsey fee, sold to Ranulf, Earl of Chester.
Circa 1787, the Haigh Hall manor passed to the Earls of Crawford and Balcarres and became the seat of Alexander Lindsay,the 6th Earl of Balcarres and de jure the 23rd Earl of Crawford.
Haigh Hall is reported to be one of the most haunted buildings in Wigan.
Staff and visitors claimed to have experienced all sorts of spooky happenings.
In 1295 it is believed that William de Bradshaigh acquired Haigh Hall marrying Marbel le Norreysde Haghe and Blackrode.
Bradshaigh then wentto war in Scotland, returning 10 years later where he found his wife Lady Marbel had remarried.
Bradshaigh killed his wife's new husband and as punishment for his wife having two husbands he made her walk barefooted with a candle from Haigh Hall to Mabs cross and she had to do this for the rest of her life.
Some say she still roams around the paths today. People have claimed to have heard Lady Marbel singing.
There is a courtyard, situated in the middle of Haigh Hall, which was built on top of old stables which were burnt down and replaced in 1865.Sadly some children died in the fire and according to folklore the children were playing about when they got caught up in the inferno.
A white lady is also said to roam the grounds and the Hall. The white lady is often seen in Mabs Gallery
which has been the scene of alleged poltergeist activity. So why not join us for an eerie over night ghost hunt at Haigh Hall. On your visit you will get to do vigils and conduct seances. You will also get the chance to use our paranormal equipment. If you are feeling brave enough then during the night you will get chance to go off on your own and hold small vigils with your friends.
